Blaser B97 Prestige Bergstutzen

The Blaser B97 Prestige offers a practical Bergstutzen design with two different rifle calibers in one firearm. This example combines 6.5x57R and .30 R Blaser in a traditional break-action layout.

Blaser combines classic hunting-rifle styling with careful German engineering in the B97. The shaped wood stock, engraved action and traditional lines give the rifle a distinctive look without unnecessary decoration. At the same time, the two-barrel arrangement gives the B97 a practical purpose beyond its appearance.

Blaser B97 Prestige Design

The B97 Bergstutzen places two rifle barrels one above the other. Blaser uses the smaller caliber in the upper barrel and allows adjustment between the upper and lower barrels for accurate regulation.

As a result, the shooter gets two different rifle calibers while keeping the familiar handling of a break-action rifle. In addition, this layout keeps the rifle compact and straightforward.

The Prestige version adds decorative engraving to the side plates. Furthermore, Blaser uses arabesque-style engraving on this version, which gives the action a traditional and detailed finish.

6.5x57R and .30 R Blaser Combination

This example combines two chamberings:

  • 6.5x57R
  • .30 R Blaser

Both calibers use rimmed cartridges that work well with break-action rifle systems. Blaser also includes 6.5x57R and .30 R Blaser among its rimmed cartridge options.

More importantly, the two-caliber arrangement forms one of the main features of the Bergstutzen concept. The shooter can choose between two rifle barrels without carrying two separate rifles. Therefore, the design provides more flexibility while keeping everything within one firearm.

B97 Double-Lock System

The lock system provides another important difference between the Blaser B95 and B97.

The B97 uses a double-lock system with two strikers and two firing-pin springs. When the shooter cocks the rifle, the system prepares both locks. Consequently, the shooter can fire the second barrel without cocking the rifle again.

This setup separates the B97 from the single-lock B95 design. In addition, the system keeps operation simple while allowing quick access to the second barrel when required.

Traditional Blaser Finish

The rifle shown carries the traditional appearance associated with the B97 Prestige. It features a shaped wood stock, engraved metalwork and a mounted optic.

However, the B97 Prestige does not rely only on decoration. Its main appeal comes from the combination of useful engineering, careful workmanship and an unusual two-caliber layout.

The wood and engraved action give the rifle its classic character. Meanwhile, the barrel and lock arrangement provide the practical features that define the B97 platform.

About the Blaser B97 Platform

Blaser developed the B97 Bergstutzen around the idea of combining two rifle calibers in one firearm. The smaller upper barrel sits inside a carrier tube, while the design allows precise adjustment in relation to the lower barrel. As a result, both barrels can work together while retaining their individual chamberings.

The double-lock system also plays an important role in the B97 design. Unlike the single-lock B95, the B97 prepares both firing mechanisms when the shooter operates the cocking system. Therefore, the shooter can use the second barrel without cocking the rifle again.

Finally, the Blaser B97 Prestige combines traditional styling with an interesting mechanical design. Its engraved action, wood stock, two rifle calibers and double-lock arrangement make it especially notable among traditional European sporting rifles.
