DETAILS
Leupold Mark 5HD 3.6-18×44 Tremor 3 FFP FDE Scope
The Leupold Mark 5HD Tremor 3 combines a 3.6-18x magnification range with a first focal plane Tremor 3 reticle and a Dark Earth finish.
Leupold pairs the detailed MIL-based reticle with its M5C3 adjustment system. Therefore, the reticle and turret use the same measurement system, which keeps adjustments easier to follow.
The scope also uses a 35mm maintube, 44mm objective lens and side-focus control. In addition, its roughly 26 oz weight keeps the optic fairly light for its size and adjustment range.
Leupold Mark 5HD Tremor 3 Magnification
The Leupold Mark 5HD Tremor 3 provides magnification from 3.6x to 18x.
At the lower setting, you get a wider view of the area around the target. Meanwhile, the higher setting brings distant details closer.
This 5:1 zoom range gives the scope useful flexibility without making the controls complicated.
Field of view measures about 28.3 feet at 100 yards on 3.6x and around 5.8 feet at 100 yards on 18x.
Tremor 3 First Focal Plane Reticle
The Tremor 3 sits in the first focal plane.
Therefore, the reticle changes size with the target image as you move through the magnification range. The MIL markings remain proportional instead of working correctly at only one magnification setting.
The reticle uses a detailed grid layout rather than a basic crosshair. As a result, it provides several reference points while still leaving the upper section relatively open.
MIL-Based Reticle and Turret System
Both the reticle and adjustment system use MIL measurements.
That means you do not need to work between MIL and MOA values on the same optic.
The elevation and windage turrets adjust in 0.1 MIL clicks. Therefore, ten clicks equal one MIL.
This consistent system keeps the scope easier to understand for shooters who already prefer MIL-based optics.
M5C3 ZeroLock Elevation Turret
The Mark 5HD uses Leupold’s M5C3 elevation turret.
Each click moves the adjustment by 0.1 MIL, while total elevation travel reaches approximately 29 MIL.
The turret also provides multiple revolutions. In addition, a revolution indicator helps the user keep track of the dial position.
ZeroLock helps prevent accidental movement when you do not want the turret to turn.
ZeroStop Function
The elevation system also includes a firm zero reference.
After setting the system correctly, you can return the elevation dial to its established zero without continuing past the starting position.
Therefore, the feature makes it easier to keep track of the original setting after making temporary adjustments.
ZeroLock also helps keep the dial where you leave it.
Leupold Mark 5HD Tremor 3 Windage
The windage turret also works in 0.1 MIL clicks.
Total windage travel measures approximately 23 MIL.
Unlike the exposed elevation dial, the windage turret uses a cap. As a result, the cap helps protect the setting from unwanted movement.
The windage system uses the same MIL measurement system as the Tremor 3 reticle.
35mm Maintube
The scope uses a 35mm maintube.
Therefore, it requires rings or a mount made specifically for a 35mm scope body.
Standard 30mm or 1-inch rings will not fit correctly.
The larger tube also gives the adjustment system room for its broad elevation and windage ranges.
44mm Objective Lens
A 44mm objective lens sits at the front of the scope.
This size keeps the front end reasonably compact while still working well with the 3.6-18x magnification range.
In addition, the 44mm objective avoids some of the extra bulk found on larger 50mm or 56mm scopes.
The result is a balanced size for this Mark 5HD configuration.
Side Focus
The scope includes a side-focus adjustment.
This control lets the user adjust parallax for different target distances.
The minimum listed side-focus distance begins at approximately 50 yards.
Because the control sits on the side of the scope, you can reach it without adjusting the front objective.
Eye Relief
Eye relief measures approximately 3.5 to 3.8 inches through the magnification range.
This gives some room to position the optic according to the rifle, mount and user’s natural head position.
However, final mounting position should always provide a full sight picture without requiring the shooter to stretch forward or move the head unnaturally.
Dark Earth FDE Finish
This version comes in a Dark Earth / FDE finish.
The finish gives it a different appearance from the standard black Mark 5HD while keeping the same core 3.6-18×44 platform.
Therefore, the color changes the look rather than the main optical or adjustment features.
It works especially well for setups where a lighter earth-tone optic fits the overall appearance.
Non-Illuminated Tremor 3 Reticle
This particular Tremor 3 configuration does not use illumination.
Therefore, there is no illumination battery or brightness control to manage.
The etched reticle remains visible through the optical system without an electronic lighting system.
This keeps the scope straightforward for someone who does not need an illuminated reticle.
Optical Performance
The Mark 5HD optical system focuses on image clarity, useful light transmission and glare control.
In simple terms, the goal is to maintain a clear view as outdoor light conditions change.
The scope also uses internal sealing to help protect against moisture and fogging.
Therefore, normal changes in temperature and weather should not cause internal fogging when the optic remains in proper condition.
Lightweight Construction
The scope weighs approximately 26 oz.
That weight remains fairly low considering the 35mm tube, 18x maximum magnification and broad adjustment range.
The scope also measures roughly 12.1 inches long.
As a result, it stays relatively compact rather than adding unnecessary length to the rifle.

REVIEWS
Good ptic with a busy reticle
The glass is extremely clear and the scope feels very well built. Tracking has been consistent and the first focal plane reticle works exactly as expected. The Tremor 3 does take some time to learn, but it offers a lot once you understand it.
Excellent glass and tracking
The image quality is outstanding and the Tremor 3 reticle is incredibly useful once you get familiar with it. Turret adjustments feel precise and repeatable, and the FDE finish looks even better in person.
