Leupold Mark 5HD 3.6-18×44 Illuminated TMR

The Leupold Mark 5HD 3.6-18×44 Illuminated TMR combines the compact Mark 5HD platform with a first focal plane MIL-based reticle and illumination for improved visibility in challenging light.

Leupold designed this configuration for shooters who want precise ranging, holdover references and reliable turret adjustments without moving to a larger or heavier optic.

Its 3.6-18x magnification range provides a useful balance between field of view at lower power and detailed target observation at higher magnification.

At the same time, the 44mm objective lens helps keep the overall optic compact while maintaining strong optical performance.

Illuminated TMR First Focal Plane Reticle

The illuminated TMR reticle sits in the first focal plane.

Therefore, the reticle scales with magnification. Its MIL measurements remain usable throughout the magnification range.

Instead of relying on a simple dot pattern, the TMR uses hash marks that give the shooter additional reference points for ranging, elevation holds and wind corrections.

The reticle uses 0.5 MIL hash spacing, with finer 0.2 MIL references toward portions of the reticle where additional precision is useful.

Illumination highlights the aiming structure without requiring the entire reticle to glow.

As a result, the shooter gets additional aiming-point visibility while retaining the detailed MIL reference system.

Seven Illumination Settings

The Mark 5HD provides seven illumination settings.

This allows the brightness to be adjusted for different lighting conditions rather than relying on one fixed illumination level.

The illumination system uses a CR2032 3V lithium coin battery, which is widely available and straightforward to replace.

Leupold also incorporates Motion Sensor Technology.

After approximately five minutes without movement, the system can deactivate illumination to conserve battery power. Movement then brings the illuminated reticle back into operation.

Night-Vision-Compatible Illumination

This Mark 5HD configuration also includes illumination settings intended for compatibility with suitable night-vision equipment.

The ability to use very low illumination levels helps prevent an excessively bright reticle from overwhelming sensitive night-vision devices.

However, actual compatibility depends on the complete equipment setup.

Therefore, users should confirm their night-vision equipment requirements before combining different optical devices.

M5C3 ZeroLock Elevation Adjustment

The M5C3 ZeroLock elevation dial gives the scope a precision adjustment system built around 0.1 MIL clicks.

Total elevation adjustment reaches approximately 29 MIL, giving shooters substantial adjustment range.

ZeroLock helps prevent unintended turret movement.

Meanwhile, the ZeroStop system provides a defined stopping point when returning the elevation dial to the established zero.

This makes it easier to make temporary elevation corrections and then return confidently to the original zero setting.

0.1 MIL Precision Adjustments

Both the elevation and windage systems use 0.1 MIL-per-click adjustments.

The scope provides approximately:

  • 29 MIL total elevation adjustment
  • 23 MIL total windage adjustment

This MIL-based system works naturally with the TMR reticle because the reticle and turret adjustments use the same measurement system.

Consequently, shooters can make corrections without converting between MOA and MIL values.

Precision Side Focus

The Mark 5HD includes a side-focus parallax adjustment.

Side focus allows the shooter to correct parallax and refine image focus for targets at different distances.

The adjustment begins from approximately 50 yards, making it useful across a broad range of precision shooting applications.

The control sits conveniently on the side of the scope, allowing adjustments without changing the shooter’s position significantly.

3.6-18x Magnification Range

The 3.6-18x magnification range gives the optic considerable versatility.

At 3.6x, the scope provides approximately 28.3 feet of field of view at 100 yards.

At 18x, the field of view narrows to approximately 5.8 feet at 100 yards.

Therefore, shooters can move from wider target acquisition to much more detailed observation without changing optics.

44mm Objective Lens

Leupold uses a 44mm objective lens rather than a larger and heavier objective.

This helps maintain the compact dimensions that distinguish the Mark 5HD 3.6-18×44 platform.

The scope measures approximately 12.1 inches long and weighs approximately 26 ounces.

As a result, it provides substantial magnification and adjustment capability without the bulk associated with many larger precision optics.

35mm Main Tube

The optic uses a 35mm maintube.

This larger tube gives the internal adjustment system room for the Mark 5HD’s substantial elevation and windage range.

However, the 35mm tube also means buyers need compatible 35mm scope rings or mounts.

For this reason, check your existing mounting hardware before installation.

Standard 30mm or 34mm rings will not fit a 35mm maintube.

Professional-Grade Optical System

Leupold equips the Mark 5HD series with its Professional-Grade Optical System.

The system focuses on strong light transmission, image clarity and glare management.

This becomes especially useful when shooting toward difficult light sources or operating during early morning and late evening conditions.

In addition, the optic uses internal sealing designed to provide waterproof and fogproof performance.

Eye Relief

Eye relief ranges from approximately 3.5 to 3.8 inches depending on magnification.

This gives shooters useful flexibility when positioning the optic on a compatible rifle.

Correct scope mounting remains important.

Therefore, users should position the optic so they obtain a complete sight picture throughout the intended shooting position and magnification range.
