DETAILS
Leupold Mark 5HD 3.6-18×44 Tremor 3 FFP Scope
The Leupold Mark 5HD Tremor 3 FFP combines a 3.6-18x magnification range with the Horus Vision Tremor 3 reticle and straightforward MIL-based adjustments.
This version uses a non-illuminated first focal plane reticle, so there is no battery or brightness control to manage. Instead, the etched Tremor 3 grid remains visible through the optical system.
Leupold pairs the reticle with its M5C3 ZeroLock elevation turret. Therefore, both the reticle and adjustments use MIL measurements, which keeps the system easy to follow.
The scope also uses a 35mm maintube, 44mm objective lens and side-focus control.
Leupold Mark 5HD Tremor 3 FFP Magnification
The Leupold Mark 5HD Tremor 3 FFP provides magnification from 3.6x to 18x.
At 3.6x, the scope gives you a wider view around the target. Meanwhile, moving toward 18x brings smaller details closer.
This 5:1 zoom range gives the optic useful flexibility without making the scope overly large.
The field of view measures approximately 28.3 feet at 100 yards on 3.6x and 5.8 feet at 100 yards on 18x.
Tremor 3 First Focal Plane Reticle
The Tremor 3 sits in the first focal plane.
Therefore, the reticle changes apparent size together with the target image when you change magnification.
Its MIL markings remain proportional throughout the zoom range. As a result, the relationship between the reticle and target image stays consistent.
This makes the detailed Tremor 3 layout useful across the full 3.6-18x magnification range.
Horus Vision Tremor 3 Reticle
Horus Vision designed the Tremor 3 as a detailed MIL-based grid reticle.
It uses small aiming points across the lower grid rather than relying on a simple crosshair alone.
In addition, numbered horizontal lines make different sections of the reticle easier to recognize.
The upper half remains relatively open, so the reticle does not completely fill the sight picture.
Tremor 3 MIL Grid
The Tremor 3 includes several reference points across its grid.
Centralized dots appear at crosshair intersections, while fine chevron references provide smaller visual markers.
The reticle also uses 0.1 MIL chevron references for fine measurement.
Furthermore, rapid-ranging marks appear above the center horizontal line.
These details give the reticle a more involved layout than a simple MIL-dot or basic hash-mark reticle.
Non-Illuminated Tremor 3
This version does not use reticle illumination.
Therefore, it does not require a battery.
There is also no brightness dial or illumination system to manage.
For someone who prefers the Tremor 3 grid without electronics, this keeps the setup straightforward.
Leupold Mark 5HD MIL System
The Tremor 3 reticle and scope turrets both use MIL measurements.
Each turret click equals 0.1 MIL.
Therefore, ten clicks equal one full MIL.
Using the same system in both the reticle and turret keeps adjustments easier to understand than mixing MIL and MOA measurements.
M5C3 ZeroLock Elevation Turret
Leupold equips this Mark 5HD with the M5C3 elevation turret.
The turret provides approximately 29 MIL of total elevation adjustment.
Each click equals 0.1 MIL, while the adjustment range works across three revolutions.
In addition, the turret includes a revolution indicator to help the user keep track of the dial position.
ZeroLock System
The ZeroLock system helps prevent accidental elevation dial movement.
Once the turret sits at the desired position, the locking feature helps keep it there during normal handling.
As a result, the dial is less likely to move when transporting or carrying the optic.
The system remains simple without adding unnecessary controls.
ZeroStop Function
The elevation turret also includes ZeroStop.
After the zero position is set correctly, the turret gets a firm stopping point when returning to that setting.
Therefore, the dial cannot simply continue turning past the established zero point.
This makes it easier to return to the original setting after making temporary adjustments.
Three-Revolution Elevation System
The M5C3 turret works across three revolutions.
This allows the scope to provide a large elevation range without using an unusually tall dial.
The revolution indicator also gives the user a visual and tactile way to keep track of the turret.
Therefore, the shooter can tell which revolution the elevation dial is on.
Windage Adjustment
Windage also adjusts in 0.1 MIL clicks.
The scope provides approximately 23 MIL of total windage travel.
Unlike the exposed elevation turret, the windage adjustment uses a cap.
As a result, the cap helps protect the windage setting from unwanted movement.
35mm Maintube
The Leupold Mark 5HD Tremor 3 FFP uses a 35mm maintube.
Therefore, it requires rings or a one-piece mount made specifically for 35mm scope tubes.
Standard 30mm or 1-inch rings will not fit.
The larger tube also provides room for the scope’s broad internal adjustment range.
44mm Objective Lens
The optic uses a 44mm objective lens.
This size keeps the front of the scope reasonably compact while working well with the 3.6-18x magnification range.
In addition, it avoids some of the extra size found on scopes with 50mm or 56mm objective lenses.
The result is a relatively compact package for an 18x first focal plane scope.
Precision Side Focus
A side-focus dial handles parallax adjustment.
The adjustment starts at approximately 50 yards.
Therefore, the user can adjust the scope for different target distances without turning the front objective.
The side placement also keeps the control within easy reach.
Parallax Adjustment
Correct side-focus adjustment helps keep the target image and reticle visually stable when the user’s eye position changes.
Therefore, the control can help provide a cleaner sight picture at different distances.
The important point is to adjust it according to the actual target distance.
Do not simply leave the control at one setting for every distance.
Eye Relief
Eye relief measures approximately 3.5 to 3.8 inches depending on magnification.
This provides some flexibility when positioning the scope.
However, final mounting position still depends on the rifle, stock, rings and the user’s natural head position.
Check the sight picture at both low and high magnification before tightening the mounting system.
Field of View
At 3.6x, field of view measures about 28.3 feet at 100 yards.
At 18x, it narrows to approximately 5.8 feet at 100 yards.
This change is normal because higher magnification shows a smaller area in greater detail.
Therefore, lower magnification gives a wider view, while higher magnification provides a closer look.
Lightweight Mark 5HD Design
The scope weighs approximately 26 ounces.
That keeps it relatively light considering its 35mm tube, 18x maximum magnification and wide adjustment range.
In addition, the compact body prevents the optic from becoming unnecessarily bulky.
This makes the Mark 5HD easier to work with than many larger scopes with similar magnification.
Leupold Optical System
Leupold builds the Mark 5HD optical system to provide a clear image under changing outdoor light.
The lenses also work to control glare from difficult light angles.
In simple terms, the design aims to keep the view clear without turning the product description into exaggerated marketing claims.
The non-illuminated reticle also keeps the optical setup straightforward.
Waterproof and Fogproof Construction
Leupold seals the scope to help protect the internal optical system from moisture.
Therefore, normal changes in weather and temperature should not lead to internal fogging when the optic remains in good condition.
