Crimson Trace Hardline 4-16×42 BDC Long Range

The Crimson Trace Hardline 4-16×42 BDC Long Range combines a 4-16x magnification range with a 42mm objective lens and a dedicated CT Custom BDC Long Range reticle.

Crimson Trace builds the scope around a 30mm aerospace-aluminum maintube. In addition, it uses exposed turrets with 1/4 MOA clicks, adjustable side parallax and a second focal plane reticle.

The scope measures approximately 13.6 inches long and weighs about 20.6 ounces. Therefore, it offers a substantial variable-power range without becoming unusually large.

Crimson Trace Hardline 4-16×42 Magnification

The Crimson Trace Hardline 4-16×42 BDC Long Range provides magnification from 4x to 16x.

At 4x, the optic gives a wider field of view. Meanwhile, increasing magnification toward 16x brings smaller details closer.

Crimson Trace lists a maximum field of view of approximately 28.5 feet and a minimum of approximately 7.2 feet.

This 4:1 magnification range keeps the controls straightforward while giving the optic useful flexibility.

CT Custom BDC Long Range Reticle

This model uses Crimson Trace’s CT Custom BDC Long Range reticle.

The company’s reticle guide identifies its BDC Long Range design as being pre-calibrated around .308 Winchester ballistics.

The reticle provides additional reference marks beyond a basic crosshair. However, ammunition and external conditions can affect actual trajectories, so customers should treat the manufacturer’s reticle documentation as the proper reference.

Second Focal Plane Design

The BDC Long Range reticle sits in the second focal plane.

Therefore, the reticle remains the same apparent size while the viewed image changes as magnification increases or decreases.

This differs from a first focal plane system, where both the image and reticle appear to scale together.

Crimson Trace officially lists this 4-16×42 configuration as second focal plane.

1/4 MOA Adjustments

The Hardline uses 1/4 MOA click adjustments.

Therefore, four clicks equal one MOA.

Both elevation and windage use the same adjustment value, which keeps the controls consistent.

Crimson Trace lists approximately 75 MOA of total elevation range and 75 MOA of total windage range.

Exposed Turrets

The scope uses exposed elevation and windage turrets.

This keeps the adjustment controls directly accessible without removing turret caps first.

In addition, the clear turret layout works with the 1/4 MOA adjustment system.

This model does not include a zero-stop system, according to Crimson Trace’s current specification table.

75 MOA Elevation Range

Crimson Trace lists approximately 75 MOA of total elevation adjustment.

Each click equals 1/4 MOA.

Therefore, the scope combines relatively fine individual adjustments with a broad overall mechanical range.

The exact usable adjustment after mounting can depend on the individual setup.

75 MOA Windage Range

The scope also provides approximately 75 MOA of windage adjustment.

Windage uses the same 1/4 MOA click value as elevation.

As a result, both adjustment controls remain within one consistent measurement system.

Adjustable Side Parallax

Unlike the 4-12×40 BDC Long Range model, this 4-16×42 version includes adjustable side parallax.

The side-mounted control lets the optical system account for different viewing distances without turning the objective housing.

Crimson Trace lists the parallax system simply as side parallax adjustable and does not provide a specific minimum distance on its current product page.

For that reason, I would not invent a minimum parallax distance for your Gunvexa specifications.

30mm Maintube

The Crimson Trace Hardline 4-16×42 BDC Long Range uses a 30mm maintube.

Therefore, the mounting system must support a 30mm scope tube.

Do not confuse this with the 42mm objective measurement. The objective refers to the front optical lens, while 30mm determines the correct ring diameter.

Crimson Trace builds the tube from aerospace aluminum.

42mm Objective Lens

The optic uses a 42mm objective lens.

This provides a larger objective than the 40mm lens found on the Hardline 4-12×40 BDC models.

At the same time, it remains smaller than many 50mm or 56mm higher-magnification scopes.

Therefore, the scope maintains a fairly balanced exterior profile.

Eye Relief

Crimson Trace lists the eye relief at approximately 94mm, which equals roughly 3.7 inches.

This gives some room for positioning the optic during installation.

However, the final placement depends on the rifle, rings and the user’s natural viewing position.

Check the full sight picture through the magnification range before finalizing the mount.

Field of View

The scope provides approximately:

  • 28.5 ft maximum field of view
  • 7.2 ft minimum field of view

These figures correspond to the changing field of view across its variable magnification range.

As magnification increases, field of view naturally becomes narrower.

Non-Illuminated Reticle

The CT Custom BDC Long Range reticle is non-illuminated.

Therefore, the scope does not require a reticle battery.

There is also no illumination dial or brightness setting to manage.

Crimson Trace lists illumination as No for SKU 01-01190.

90% Light Transmission

Crimson Trace lists approximately 90% light transmission for this scope.

The optic also uses green multi-coated glass.

These coatings help manage reflections as light passes through the optical system.

For your Gunvexa description, using the manufacturer’s 90% figure is better than making exaggerated claims about brightness.

Multi-Coated Glass

The Hardline uses green multi-coated glass.

Crimson Trace also describes the Hardline range as fully multi-coated.

These optical coatings help improve light transmission and reduce unwanted reflections.

However, proper care still matters. Use suitable lens-cleaning materials rather than rough cloth or household chemicals.

Aerospace-Aluminum Construction

Crimson Trace builds the scope body from aerospace aluminum.

This gives the optic a durable metal construction while keeping the overall weight at approximately 20.6 oz.

The 30mm tube also gives the scope a more substantial body than the 1-inch tube used on some smaller Hardline models.

20.6 oz Weight

The scope weighs approximately 20.6 ounces.

That equals roughly 1.29 pounds.

Considering the 4-16x magnification, 42mm objective, 30mm tube and exposed turret system, the scope maintains a manageable overall weight.

13.6-Inch Length

Crimson Trace lists the dimensions at approximately 13.6 x 2.9 x 2.5 inches.

Therefore, the scope measures about 13.6 inches from front to rear.

The manufacturer also lists approximately:

Rear mounting length: 2 inches
Front mounting length: 2.5 inches

Check your available mounting space before fitting the optic.

Waterproof and Nitrogen-Purged Construction

Crimson Trace describes the Hardline series as waterproof and nitrogen purged.

The sealed construction helps protect the internal optical system when weather conditions change.

Meanwhile, nitrogen purging helps reduce internal fogging caused by temperature and humidity changes.
